I believe film and television to be more than forms of entertainment and this is evident in the previous article that I wrote. Within the next few weeks I will be reading a book that I have just bought called "Film as Social Practice". I found the title to be extremely interesting considering our North American culture revolves very much around media. I am a big fan of films that reflect humanity in a true light so that it does not distort our perception of reality but can still be entertaining, enlightening, interesting and above all, honest. This does not mean that I don't love a good superhero film, because I definitely do, but like the article that I shared by Tom Hiddleston, they aren't as shallow as they're assumed to be.
As for my project, I have recently studied philosophy, sociology, psychology, and anthropology and I my main area of interest revolves around the relationship between film and our culture as well as the societies in North America. I will be reading the book "Film as Social Practice" and developing a thesis as well as doing some additional research and a lot of questioning. I'll apply principles of most likely each social science as well as modern and foundational epistemology to prove my view.
I'm really excited to start this and work on it over the next few weeks, which may actually turn into a summer project since I have so many books on the go as well as a huge to-watch list for films. Who knows, they may even be of help to me but I'll definitely be consuming loads of media over the next couple of months, haha! Well, I look forward to uploading the paper and hearing from you!
